Triage is by its very nature an inexact science. When considering prehospital triage, there are two perspectives that can be taken, not unlike looking at the same object from different ends of a telescope. The wide-angle view, which is the one inevitably taken in the prehospital environment using the available data, is to ensure every potential “major trauma” patient is identified so that they may be taken to an appropriate destination hospital and the trauma response pre-emptively mobilized. From the narrow view telescope perspective, which is taken by the receiving facilities and teams, all patients transported and notified need to be those that are appropriate to come to that facility and/or have the trauma team response. …
