Excerpt

This atlas contains an enhanced, extended, and fully segmented and labeled electronic version of the Talairach-Tournoux brain atlas, including parcelated gyri and Brodmann’s areas. The CD-ROM facilitates communication of the information on the interpreted scans from the neuroimager to other clinicians and medical students, increases the neuroimager’s confidence in terms of anatomy and spatial relationships, and serves as a user-friendly, public domain tool for neuroeducation. The structure is based on the integrated presentation of brain anatomy and cerebrovasculature, by providing for direct manipulation of three-dimensional (3-D) cerebral models. The use of 3-D polygonal models allows smooth navigation (rotation, zooming, panning) and interactive labeling of anatomic structures and vascular segments. This application enables the reader to examine 3-D anatomic structures and 3-D cerebral vasculature and to gain a better understanding of the relationships between the two. In this way the combined anatomic-vascular atlas becomes a user-friendly neuroeducational tool effective for all people interested in neuroimaging, as professionals, students, and neuroscience researchers as well as for educators in preparing teaching materials. The user can freely manipulate 3-D models by rotating, moving, and panning them in real time. In addition, all anatomic structures are labeled with their names. Any structure can be selected from the index for display or can be labeled by pointing to it with the cursor. In this way, the atlas enables the user to study and learn about 3-D anatomic structures and 3-D cerebral vasculature and to gain an understanding of the relationships between the two. …
