Gallbladder carcinoma (GBC), of which gallbladder adenocarcinoma is the predominant pathological type, is a highly lethal disease with poor prognosis.
1 A previous study reported that the overall 5-year survival rate was less than 5% and mean survival time was only 6 months.
2 Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in peripheral blood circulation can serve as biomarkers in “liquid biopsy,” providing a convenient and effective way to identify the tumor nature, monitor progression and metastasis, and evaluate treatment response and prognosis.
