Currently, nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) is increasingly performed for breast cancer patients without evidence of nipple-areolar complex (NAC) invasion due to the high patient satisfaction rate and acceptable oncologic safety.
1 Endoscopic-assisted NSM (E-NSM) alone or followed by immediate breast reconstruction (IBR) with implants or autologous flaps is reported to be associated with a small inconspicuous incision and a good cosmetic outcome.
2 Conventional E-NSM was performed with two separate incisions over the axilla and peri-areolar regions. Like NSM with an areolar-related incision, E-NSM with an areolar incision was associated with an increased NAC ischemia/necrosis rate (9.1–19%).
