Development of the cerebral cortex and its vasculature occurs as a coordinated, codependent process, tightly controlled by robust genetic algorithms [

2]. Advances in medical imaging are providing phenotypic examples where aberrancy in the development of one of these systems directly affects the other, producing focal corticovascular malformations [

5]. The development of the cerebral cortex invokes a progressive increase in cortical blood flow during the second half of gestation and into the early days following birth [
