Diabetes mellitus und Parodontitis

Wechselbeziehung und klinische Implikationen. Ein Konsensuspapier

Zusammenfassung

Diabetes und Parodontitis sind weit verbreitete chronische Erkrankungen mit einer zunehmenden Prävalenz in der deutschen Bevölkerung. Zwischen beiden Erkrankungen besteht eine bidirektionale Beziehung: Der Diabetes begünstigt die Entstehung, die Progression und den Schweregrad einer Parodontitis. Die Parodontitis erschwert die glykämische Kontrolle des Diabetes, erhöht das Risiko diabetesassoziierter Komplikationen und möglicherweise sogar dessen Entstehung. Angesichts der vorliegenden Evidenz, die gerade in der Ärzteschaft noch nicht hinreichend kommuniziert worden ist, hat ein Expertengremium bestehend aus 4 Diabetologen und 4 Parodontologen im vorliegenden Konsensusreport die folgenden Fragen bearbeitet: Welchen Einfluss hat Diabetes mellitus auf Parodontitis und parodontale Therapie? Welchen Einfluss hat Parodontitis auf Diabetes mellitus? Was sind die praktischen Konsequenzen, die sich daraus für interdisziplinäre Behandlungsstrategien ableiten? Die Behandlung parodontaler Infektionen sollte integraler Bestandteil des Diabetesmanagements werden, wohingegen die Sicherstellung einer adäquaten glykämischen Einstellung wesentlicher Bestandteil einer erfolgreichen Parodontaltherapie ist.
