We thank Drs. Bricou, Sakr, and Barranger for their Letter to the Editor regarding our article entitled “Lumpectomy Cavity Shaved Margins Do Not Impact Re-excision Rates in Breast Cancer Patients”.
1 Their letter acknowledges the value of our study in finding that taking shaved cavity margins (SCMs) at the time of lumpectomy decreases the overall volume of breast tissue excised without impacting local recurrence rates; however, it questions our finding that SCMs do not decrease re-excision rates. In their letter, several key points not discussed in our article were raised because of the potential effect they could have had on our findings. We would like to take this opportunity to address their questions and provide further evidence in support of our findings. …
