Zusammenfassung

Die demographische Entwicklung und der medizinische Fortschritt bedingen ein immer höheres Lebensalter. Eine mittlere Lebenserwartung von 90 Jahren wird voraussichtlich in der nächsten Dekade in vielen Ländern erreicht werden. Damit bekommt die geriatrische Medizin, die sich mit den spezifischen Anforderungen der hochbetagten, oft gebrechlichen und meist komorbiden Patienten auseinandersetzt, einen immer größeren Stellenwert. Infektionen des Urogenitaltrakts nehmen mit dem Lebensalter zu, gleichzeitig ist in zunehmendem Maße ein kritisches, bewusstes Verordnungsverhalten in der antimikrobiellen Therapie gefordert. Die vorliegende Übersicht soll dem Leser die Besonderheiten von Harnwegsinfekten und asymptomatischer Bakteriurie im hohen Lebensalter in Bezug auf Epidemiologie, Keim- und Resistenzspektrum sowie Therapieindikation und -durchführung bewusst machen.
