Zusammenfassung

Physiologische Alterungsprozesse des Immunsystems gehen mit einer erhöhten Anfälligkeit für Infektionskrankheiten, Autoimmun- und Tumorerkrankungen einher. Entsprechend der allgemeinen demographischen Entwicklung steigt auch die Anzahl der Tumorpatienten mit fortgeschrittenem Lebensalter zunehmend. Ein Ende dieser Entwicklung ist bislang nicht absehbar. Bei der Tumorbehandlung gewinnt die Immuntherapie mit Checkpoint-Inhibitoren stetig an Bedeutung, allerdings existieren bislang nur wenige Studien zu Wirksamkeit und Nebenwirkungsprofil bei älteren Patienten. In dieser Übersichtsarbeit werden die Veränderungen des Immunsystems im Alter und ihr Einfluss auf die Karzinogenese erörtert. Darüber hinaus wird auf den aktuellen Forschungsstand zur Immuntherapie von Patienten im fortgeschrittenen Lebensalter mit einem Kopf-Hals-Tumor eingegangen.
