Warrior Renew: Healing from Military Sexual Trauma, Lori Katz introduces a new military sexual trauma group intervention called holographic reprocessing which is based on cognitive-experiential self-theory. Katz explains that the treatment is a holistic approach that gets at the root cause of a person’s trauma symptoms in comparison to other interventions which might only provide amelioration of distress. Holographic reprocessing borrows from many different theoretical orientations to provide an integrative approach to military sexual trauma treatment. Katz claims that, unlike other therapies, holographic reprocessing does not use exposure techniques, thus revisiting the trauma itself is not a required component of the intervention. Moreover, the treatment looks at the interplay of emotions, cognitions, and behaviors and how these influence the development of certain relationship patterns and personal perceptions that are reenacted throughout a person’s life. These perceptions and patterns that are often impacted by the trauma are “reprocessed”, helping an individual think differently about themselves, others, and the world. For a more comprehensive review of holographic reprocessing and its major components, the reader is directed to an article by Katz (
2001). …
