Ong and colleagues (Nov. issue) [
1] presented three cases with chronic myeloid leukemia treated with imatinib who developed gastric antral vascular ectasia (GAVE). In all three cases GAVE resolved when imatinib was discontinued and two recurred when imatinib was re-started, thus suggesting causality between imatinib and GAVE. However, the latencies from start of imatinib to onset of GAVE in the reported cases were 7, 13 months, and 6 years. The long latencies with wide variation may make their causality less likely, as a long observation period would increase the chances of capturing adventitious events independent of a suspected drug.
