Using the Swedish Hernia Registry, the authors of this study have retrieved the reoperation rate following primary inguinal hernia repair with the Prolene Hernia System (PHS) [
1]. In a large cohort of 1229 patients and with a median of 10-year follow-up, 19 reoperations (1.5%) were identified. With the 96% coverage of the registry in Sweden for operative interventions, this is a reliable finding. The outcome of the 19 re-interventions was noted as well. They compared these results with the outcome after the Lichtenstein repair as it was hypothesized the bilayer construct of the PHS could have the benefit of less recurrences and the disadvantage of difficulties if reoperation is necessary. …
