A 29-year-old woman in the 36th week of her first, uneventful pregnancy with no prior medical history underwent planned caesarean section delivery under epidural due to breech presentation. The operative procedure was uncomplicated. On wound closure, the patient suffered sudden haemodynamic collapse and then cardiac arrest. Following two cycles of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, spontaneous circulation was restored. There was no inordinate blood loss. Electrocardiogram (ECG), blood gas and subsequent bloods were normal. …
