Crohn disease is a chronic, inflammatory transmural disease of any part of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract that commonly involves the small bowel, in particular the terminal ileum. In the United States and northern Europe, Crohn disease is the most common small bowel disease, with an incidence of seven in 100,000; it is infrequent in Asia (Japan excluded) and in Central and South America, with an incidence of 0.08 in 100,000 [1]. …
