Zusammenfassung

Mentalisieren ist die menschliche Fähigkeit, sich auf sich selbst und andere als Personen mit inneren Zuständen wie Gefühlen, Wünschen und Überzeugungen zu beziehen. Erst dadurch wird das Verhalten anderer Menschen bedeutungsvoll und sinnhaft. Das Mentalisierungskonzept der Arbeitsgruppe um P. Fonagy basiert auf den Ergebnissen der Bindungsforschung und Annahmen zur Entwicklung des Selbst. Ein daraus abgeleitetes Therapiekonzept wurde für die Behandlung von Borderline-Persönlichkeitsstörungen manualisiert und erfolgreich evaluiert. Darüber hinaus beanspruchen die Autoren, dass das Konzept der Mentalisierung für die psychotherapeutische Behandlung allgemeine Bedeutung habe (Allen et al. 2008). Innovativ am Mentalisierungskonzept ist die Integration verschiedener empirisch fundierter Erkenntnisse zu einem kohärenten Behandlungsansatz.
