Zusammenfassung

Glaukome stellen die zweithäufigste irreversible Erblindungsursache dar – sowohl in Industrienationen wie Deutschland als auch weltweit. Ziel des vorliegenden Beitrags ist es, einen Überblick über die Epidemiologie der Erkrankung sowie über die Bedeutung und Konsequenzen der Glaukome für die Bevölkerung im Hinblick auf den Einfluss auf die alltägliche Lebensführung, die Ausübung eines Berufs und die Lebensqualität zu geben.
