Defecation disorders are very common in children and account for up to 3% of pediatric outpatient visits and up to 25% of pediatric gastroenterological disorders. Functional constipation (FC) represents the most common encountered situation. In 1999, a consensus conference was held in Rome and developed specific diagnostic criteria for functional gastrointestinal disorders in childhood, including FC (Rome II diagnostic criteria) [
