I thank Professor W. T. Ng for expressing congratulations [
3] and for attributing the first classification of port closure techniques to me [

I concur with his observation that some overlap exists between the second and third groups in my original article and endorse his proposal that the first, second, and third groups be described as “two port,” “one port,” and “no port,” respectively. In addition, I point out that although we could pass Reverdin and Deschamps needles under the guidance of tactile sensation alone without intraabdominal visualization, it would be much safer to manipulate these sharp instruments under laparoscopic control [
2], and that they therefore would be more appropriately categorized under the second group (one port). …
