Obesity is a major health problem that contributes to increased morbidity and mortality and to a host of disease processes. A growing number of countries adopted policies to prevent obesity from spreading further. Several countries developed multi-stakeholder frameworks, involving business and civil society actors in the development of public health policies. The management and treatment of obesity is complex. A large number of specialists are needed to support health care in obese patients, especially endocrinologists, dieticians, gastroenterologists, surgeons, psychologists and psychiatrists. Gastrointestinal endoscopy is now an investigation of choice for the gastrointestinal tract—mainly oesophagus, stomach and duodenum. …
