Wirksamkeit von Pflanzenprodukten gegen Herpesinfektionen

Zusammenfassung

Ätherische Öle aus unterschiedlichen Heilpflanzen sind hoch wirksam gegen einige Virusinfektionen, z. B. gegen Herpes-simplex-Virus vom Typ 1, den Erreger des Lippenherpes. Melissenöl, Teebaumöl und Pfefferminzöl sind in vitro deutlich antiherpetisch wirksam. Dies beruht vor allem auf einer direkten Interaktion des Öls mit Viruspartikeln. Die genannten ätherischen Öle sind auch gegen aciclovirresistente Herpesstämme wirksam. In klinischen Studien wurde für Teebaumöl eine infektionshemmende Eigenschaft nachgewiesen. Letztere führt zur schnelleren Abheilung des Lippenherpes. Darüber hinaus wirken ätherische Öle bei topischer Anwendung auch schmerzlindernd und entzündungshemmend. Eine 3- bis 4-malige topische Applikation verdünnter ätherischer Öle wird zur Therapie bei herpetischen Infektionen empfohlen. Einige Pflanzenprodukte, z. B. aus der Melisse, sind bereits im Handel zur Behandlung von herpetischen Infektionen erhältlich.
