Biologische Mechanismen der Myopie

Zusammenfassung

Einige neue Studien haben bestätigt, dass die Myopiehäufigkeit in den meisten Ländern zugenommen hat, dass diese Zunahme auf Umweltfaktoren zurückgehen muss und dass die Myopie eng mit dem Ausbildungsstand zusammenhängt. Dabei treten ausgedehnte Naharbeit mit kurzer Sehdistanz, wenig Aufenthalt im Freien und wenig helle Beleuchtung als Faktoren in den Vordergrund. Bis heute ist nicht verstanden, was bei Naharbeit wirklich das Augenwachstum stimuliert. Tiermodelle bieten die Möglichkeit, die Seherfahrung zu manipulieren und das Augenwachstum zu beobachten. Sie haben viele unerwartete Aspekte zutage gefördert, die dann zu Untersuchungen bei Kindern geführt haben. Atropin, verabreicht als Augentropfen in niederer Dosierung (0,01 %), wirkt gegen die Myopieprogression und zeigt v. a. keinen Rückschlageffekt nach Absetzen der Behandlung im Gegensatz zu den früher üblichen höheren Dosierungen. Während die Ausbildung in unserer Gesellschaft nicht eingeschränkt werden kann, gibt es zunehmend Möglichkeiten, die Myopieprogression zu verlangsamen, sodass hohe Myopie seltener erreicht wird.
