In the summer of 2005 I did research with Dr. Howard Trachtman at Schneider Children’s Hospital, and as a pre-med student he asked me to review Advances in end-stage renal diseases 2005. This should be taken into account when reading this review. The book includes articles on diverse topics pertaining to many renal aspects of the lives of patients with end-stage renal disease. Interest in the book is achieved by including articles with different styles and objectives. All contributions encourage further investigation and implementation of proposed changes in practice. While the book presents a fine overall view of emerging renal issues, it nevertheless has its shortcomings, because depth into specific issues is sacrificed for breadth and variety, and the publication functions as a superficial overview. …
