As veterinary pathologists with an interest and expertise in forensic veterinary pathology it is always encouraging to see publications in the medical literature on animals and forensic investigations. Animals can be victims, evidence, or both. As Byard clearly explained in his recent editorial, dogs may also be perpetrators inflicting lethal trauma, or cause wounds that subsequently become septic [
