Abstract

Oral lichen planus is an inflammatory disorder with T-cell-mediated immunological etiology. The aim of this study was to evaluate the IL-10 in saliva of OLP patients and compare it with healthy people. In this cross-sectional study, 44 patients with oral lichen planus and 44 healthy people were enrolled to the study. Five to 10 ml un-stimulated whole saliva samples were collected in the morning, and concentration of IL-10 was measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The mean of salivary IL-10 was more in the patient group (0.2 ± 0.92) than the healthy group (0.1 ± 0.04), but there was no significant difference between these groups. No significant relation was found between salivary IL-10 level and type of OLP. The result of present study showed no significant differences in salivary level of IL-10 between OLP and healthy people.
