Highlights of the 26th Annual Scientific Session of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology

Social media (SoMe) played a prominent role in the dissemination of knowledge at the 26th Annual Scientific Session of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC). Twitter was the primary platform for communication and dissemination of information. The official hashtags for the conference were #ASNC2021 and #CVNuc. The track, chaired by Dr. Krishna Patel, selected a group of SoMe-adept physicians and technologists with an interest in nuclear cardiology to be SoMe ambassadors or ‘virtual moderators’. Each session had two virtual moderators who live-tweeted high-yield learning points and important slides as they were being presented. These cyber-initiatives led to stimulating academic discussions and global networking opportunities. To further this online camaraderie, a virtual happy hour and ‘Tweet-up’ were held over Zoom, open to all ASNC members and conference attendees. During the Tweet-up, awards were distributed to the most prolific tweeter and most engaged Twitter newbie (Figure 1). Trending at number 5 for medical conferences during the week, the event saw 346 participants from across the globe contributing to 3768 tweets. This totaled 15.8 million impressions worldwide, surpassing the previous year’s impressions, and making the SoMe campaign for #ASNC2021 a resounding success (Figures 2, 3). #ASNC2021 was the second virtual ASNC conference. In 2020, the conference resulted in 4500 tweets from 425 global users, with 13.3 million impressions. Over 5800 impressions were shared.
