My talk today may be a little different from what you have come to expect from presidential addresses, both in content and in format. I originally planned to let the music do the talking, but my better judgment prevailed. I want to credit, at the outset, the work of Clayton Christenson [
1] and Jim Collins [
3], whose books have forever changed my views of what it takes to create successful organizations. My interpretation of their concepts lays the foundation for this address and, of course, as the music and pictures have depicted, none of this would have been possible without the foundation upon which I have built my life: Barbara, Benjamin, Lisa, and my mentor Andy Warshaw, who will give the Marks Lecture later this morning. …
