Members of the Editorial Committee of the Journal of Artificial Organs (JAO) are pleased to introduce to colleagues worldwide through the publication of JAO a broad spectrum of important new achievements in the field of artificial organs. We believe that JAO has a very high potential for promoting interest in the field of artificial organs. The impact factor announced in the Journal Citation Reports for 2015 was 1.438. We are proud of this impact factor, which will certainly enhance international interest in the journal. …

Das Karpaltunnelsyndrom ist die häufigste Kompressionsneuropathie peripherer Nerven. Obwohl die Anamnese mit dem nächtlichen Einschlafen der Hand (Brachialgia parästhetica nocturna) sehr typisch ist, ist eine klinisch-neurologische Untersuchung und Elektroneurografie in manchen Fällen auch eine Neurosonografie erforderlich. Im Anfangsstadium sind konservative Maßnahmen (Handgelenksschiene, Ergotherapie) empfehlenswert. Bei nicht Ansprechen der konservativen Therapie oder Auftreten von neurologischen Ausfällen ist eine Dekompression des N. medianus am Karpaltunnel indiziert.
