Acute phlegmonous gastritis is a rare, rapidly progressive suppurative bacterial infection of the wall of the stomach. Two types are described, a diffuse type, in which the whole stomach is involved, and a localized type, in which a part of the stomach, usually the antrum, is affected [
1] Without therapy, phlegmonous gastritis progresses to peritonitis and death. In the preantibiotic era mortality was as high as 92% [
