Tc-99m sestamibi has high sensitivity in demonstrating the infiltration of bone marrow by plasma cells in the diagnosis of multiple myeloma, which is the most common form of plasma cell dyscrasia. Although rare, uptake of tracer activity caused by the infiltration of soft tissue by plasma cells was also reported.
1 Careful inspection of projection images in myocardial perfusion scintigraphy (MPS) is crucial in evaluating extracardiac involvement. We present a case of a rare tumor—extramedullary plasmacytoma—incidentally detected in MPS with the diagnosis confirmed by biopsy.
