Epiphyllum (orchid cactus) is a genus of epiphytic or lithophytic plants in the family Cactaceae [
1]. Members of this genus are native to Mexico and Central America and are widely cultivated as ornamental plants. Some orchid cacti are also of interest to the pharmaceutical industry [

3]. Most ornamental cacti are propagated vegetatively by cutting, a practice that can result in the accumulation and spread of viruses. Symptoms of virus infections are frequently observed in orchid cacti, and at least seven viruses have been reported to infect them [
