Hypercalcemia is a common problem in routine clinical practice. It has many causes (
Table 1), but the vast majority of cases are due to one of three disorders; malignant disease, primary hyperparathyroidism and vitamin D intoxication [
1]. Of these conditions, cancer-associated hypercalcemia is the one that most often requires medical antihypercalcemic therapy, since surgery remains the treatment of choice for primary hyperparathyroidism [
2] and most patients with vitamin D intoxication respond satisfactorily when treatment with Vitamin D is stopped [
