Abstract
We used acellular dermal matrix (ADM) to reconstruct the dura in a patient with recurrent malignant schwannoma of the scalp. The patient had previously undergone ablative surgery with reconstruction and radiation therapy. The present recurrence involved the dura. Full-thickness resection was performed. Reconstruction was carried out using ADM, a free muscle-flap covered with at split skin graft, and healed primarily. The patient recovered completely. Dural reconstruction may be performed using foreign materials. Biologic materials may prove superior as they favour ingrowth of the patients’ own supporting tissues. We found that ADM provided the patient with at fluid-tight dural reconstruction. ADM may be a feasible alternative to other dural substitutes.
