We thank Dr. Okabe and colleagues for their comments regarding our recent publication.
1 We agree with their remark that response to chemotherapy is associated with improved survival in patients with positive cytology. We hypothesize that conversion from positive to negative cytology from treatment with systemic chemotherapy reflects favorable tumor biology and chemotherapy-sensitive disease. It is intuitive that response to chemotherapy would correlate with an improved outcome; however, even patients with an excellent response to initial therapy eventually die of disease. In our series, 5-year survival (from the time of first laparoscopy) was 1.4% (4 of 291 patients). …
