Combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) has dramatically reduced the occurrence of opportunistic infections (OI) and improved morbidity and mortality in patients with HIV infection. However, immunocompromised individuals who harbor OI and commence antiretroviral therapy (ART) are also susceptible to an enhanced immunological response to OI, called immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) (French et al.

2012; Post et al.
2013a; Müller et al.
2010). On occasion, IRIS can occur against HIV (Johnson and Nath
2011; Post et al.
