Stromazellen als Koordinatoren für die adaptive Immunantwort und das immunologische Gedächtnis

Zusammenfassung

Der griechische Begriff Stroma bedeutet wörtlich übersetzt Streu, Lager oder auch Decke. Im medizinischen Kontext bezeichnet man damit das Binde- und Stützgewebe eines Organs, das sich aus den Stromazellen sowie aus den extrazellulären Matrixbestandteilen, die von diesen Zellen produziert werden, zusammensetzt. Nach der ursprünglichen Definition handelt es sich bei Stromazellen um Zellen nichthämatopoetischen Ursprungs, die in der Zellkultur adhärent wachsen. Heute wird der Begriff zusammenfassend für eine heterogene Gruppe von Zellen des Bindegewebes mesenchymaler Herkunft verwendet, die unter anderem Fibroblasten, retikuläre Stromazellen und Endothelzellen sowie gewebsspezifische Bindegewebszellen wie beispielsweise Osteoblasten und Adipozyten umfasst. Da sich die Stromazellen in den verschiedenen Geweben hinsichtlich ihrer morphologischen und funktionellen Eigenschaften stark unterscheiden, beginnt man gerade erst die Vielfalt der einzelnen stromalen Subpopulationen zu verstehen. In diesem Artikel werden neue Erkenntnisse über die verschiedenen Funktionen von Stromazellen bei Immunantworten zusammengefasst.
