Myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) is primarily a cardiac diagnostic method, but scans a large area within the heart's vicinity, making incidental non-cardiac findings common. Husmann et al noted that in MPI SPECT images of 582 patients that 400 (68.7%) patients had non-cardiac findings, and 196 (33.7%) had at least one clinically relevant finding.
1 Therefore, careful inspection of raw images when analyzing myocardial perfusion scintigraphy can identify important non-cardiac findings leading to early diagnosis and more effective management of the patient. …
