Sir: Although not recommended in guidelines [
1], routine culture of central venous catheter (CVC) tips is common practice in France in both adult and paediatric intensive care units (ICUs). The French Ministry of Health recently suggested that information on nosocomial infections could be improved by comparing routine catheter-tip cultures among ICUs belonging to formalized networks [
