Prostacyclin is a naturally occurring substance that in addition to an inhibitory effect of platelet aggregation is a potent vasodilator with a half-life of 2–3 min [1, 2]. Prostacyclin activates the intracellular enzyme adenylyl cyclase, through specific membrane receptors, and increases intracellular cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), which in turn decreases free intracellular calcium concentration of vascular smooth muscle cells [2]. …
