The authors present a book on the diagnostic potential of sonography in the clarification of pleural and lung diseases. It is based on the dramatic improvement of ultrasound equipment and helps the investigator to apply this technology in the daily management of patients and to come to an unequivocal diagnosis. The book is clearly structured with chapters on technical prerequisites and anatomy of the chest wall and pleura, providing concise information about the diagnostic procedure. The excellent imaging material underlines the importance of ultrasound. Basic elements such as investigation techniques, image artifacts and pitfalls are critically discussed in a separate chapter. Interventional sonography in specialized centers expands the use of ultrasound in chest, mediastinum and pleural disease. The final chapter provides a step-by-step diagnostic imaging procedure in pneumology with state-of-the-art use of the different techniques for evaluating chest disease, also including CT, MRI and conventional X-ray. …
