Wechselwirkungen zwischen Depression und Schlaganfall

Zusammenfassung

Der zerebrale Insult stellt eine der häufigsten Todesursachen weltweit dar. Die Inzidenz wird voraussichtlich in den nächsten Jahrzehnten drastisch ansteigen. Zur Prävention ist daher die genaue Kenntnis der Risikofaktoren und pathophysiologischen Mechanismen dringend notwendig. Inzwischen bestehen deutliche Hinweise, dass Schlaganfall und Depressionen sich gegenseitig beeinflussende Krankheitsentitäten sind, wie sich dies auch im Konzept der so genannten „post-stroke depression“ zeigt. Darüber hinaus wird postuliert, dass die Depression einen unabhängigen Risikofaktor für das Auftreten späterer Schlaganfälle darstellt. Von den Mechanismen, über die beide Erkrankungen in Wechselwirkung stehen, ist jedoch noch zu wenig bekannt. Diese Arbeit stellt verschiedene pathophysiologische Mechanismen dar, die sowohl zu einer Erhöhung des Risikos zerebraler Erkrankungen führen, als auch unter dem Einfluss depressiver Erkrankungen pathologisch verändert sein können und so Kandidaten für ein Bindeglied zwischen Schlaganfall und Depression sein könnten.
