Colon cancer constitutes 70% of all colorectal cancers. Prior studies have shown racial disparities in colon cancer-specific survival.
1 For example, a consistently lower survival has been observed among blacks than whites. However, Asian representation in such multiethnic studies has been rare. In addition to clinicopathological factors, colon cancer site-specific features, such as circumferential resection margin (CRM), perineural invasion (PI), obstruction, and perforation, have been shown to affect long-term overall survival. Therefore, in this study two survival prediction models were developed using different combinations of clinicopathological variables and colon site-specific features based on data from the Taiwan cancer registry (TCR).
