Sir: We were pleased to read the recent article by Ouimet and colleagues [
1] describing the incidence of delirium, associated risk factors, and outcomes among 820 general intensive care unit (ICU) patients, as this work substantially contributes to the growing body of literature identifying ICU delirium as a clinical manifestation of acute brain dysfunction associated with prolonged hospital stays, increased health care costs, and an increased likelihood of death [2–4]. In the largest study to date to examine outcomes associated with ICU delirium, Ouimet et al. determined that delirium is associated with longer ICU and hospital stay and increased ICU and hospital mortality. …
