Authors submitting a manuscript to a scientific journal do not always perceive reviewers in a very positive manner. They consider that reviewers constitute the main barrier to being published. In a sense, this is true, and in the process of writing a manuscript authors should always consider that their first readers will be the reviewers; it might even be worthwhile thinking in advance who could be these reviewers. What an editor asks a reviewer, however, is different, and it is important that authors also acknowledge that the ultimate role of the reviewer is to improve the manuscript. …
