Sir: We read with interest the recent publication “Mannose-binding lectin polymorphisms and pulmonary outcome in premature neonates: a pilot study” by Dr. Capoluongo and co-workers [
1]. The authors describe mannose-binding lectin (MBL) genotype in relation to pulmonary outcome in a cohort of preterm babies. We appreciate the practical difficulties in recruiting large cohorts for genetic studies in critically ill patients – especially in children and neonates – and the authors are to be congratulated for this attempt. …
