Excerpt

A 41-year-old woman presented with a history of amenorrhea for 13 years, which was treated with a dopamine antagonist. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) performed 3 years earlier revealed a pituitary mass (not shown). Although the initial MRI already showed a compression of the optic chiasm, no neurosurgical consultation was arranged, presumably because the visual examination was normal. The current MRI (Figs. 1 and 2) showed an enlargement of the intrasellar mass. Her visual examination showed a slight decrease of visual acuity and a new bitemporal hemianopia. An endocrinological examination showed a slightly increased serum prolactin level, whereas levels of all other pituitary hormones were within reference ranges.
