Zusammenfassung

Dexamethason ist ein synthetisches Steroid, das seit vielen Jahren besonders aufgrund seiner antiinflammatorischen, antiallergischen und immunsuppressiven Eigenschaften in der Klinik eingesetzt wird. Darüber hinaus wird Dexamethason schon seit langer Zeit zu Prophylaxe und Therapie des chemotherapeutikainduzierten Übelkeit und Erbrechens angewandt. Inzwischen hat sich Dexamethason als Standard für die Prophylaxe und Therapie des „postoperative nausea and vomiting“ (PONV) bewährt. In dieser Übersichtsarbeit werden Indikationen und Nebenwirkungen von perioperativ verabreichtem Dexamethason dargestellt.
